Now that the new year has passed, and the weather has cleared up a little, the flight lessons are able to continue!
This Year:
So far I have conducted two lessons with Redhill Aviation this year.
Below is the takeoff footage of the flight (you can see how bumpy it is!)
Only speech from ATC and myself is included in this clip for privacy
Here is a little taster of one of the stalls in the lesson below. This one specifically is a 'power off' stall.
The audio has been removed on purpose
After having conducted this lesson on stalling, I feel motivated to take up some additional training later in life, such as experiencing spins, as it is not covered in the PPL syllabus - just to know how to deal with them as it could save my life and will make me a safer pilot.
That has been my progress so far
A big thank you to Laurance, my flight instructor, for being a fantastic mentor in every lesson!
I apologize that this update has taken me a while to release - I have just started my first year of college and since I am taking four subjects, I get set a lot of work so I have little time for myself or any other activities. Even before flying lessons I have to get a lot of college work done.
Now that I am settled into college I plan to update my blog a lot more regularly. Thank you to everyone who has been incredibly supportive - it really means a lot to me.

After a long two year wait, having had to put off flying for a while in order to complete my GCSE's, I have been able to fly again! The flight: The objective of this flight was to learn how to maintain straight and level flight - which although sounds easy, can be quite a challenge. The lesson was also mainly a recap to revise what I had learnt two years ago.
We took off Runway 08R at Redhill Aerodrome (EGKR), with a very calm wind, variable at 3 knots. Here below is footage of my takeoff. After departure, we headed towards Godstone station, a VRP which we were told to report when flying over it, and then continued to head further to the East until we reached Tonbridge, where we commenced the lesson. It consisted of practising how to use the trim properly whilst in level or climbing / descending flight, and how to turn the aircraft without having to look down at the instruments. I found this all very valuable experience as I will need to be able to perform these manoeuvres in every flight I will fly. During the flying lesson I did make quite a few mistakes: - Neutralising all controls when coming out of a turn at once - Looking outside when trimming, not at the 'Vertical Speed' indicator - Having said 'final' instead of saying 'call final' when on the downwind leg - Having a too low of a nose attitude when touching down on the ground I hope to improve on these the next time I go flying! |
